Action Days 2023 Frequently Asked Questions

Where will Action Days 2023 take place?

Action Days 2023 is returning to Washington, D.C. for the first time since 2019! Action Days training will take place at the JW Marriott Washington DC (1331 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. Washington, DC 20004) on Monday, April 24th. The Alliance has secured a room block at the JW Marriott for the nights of April 23rd, 24th, and 25th at the nightly rate of $275 plus tax for a King Bed or $295 plus tax for 2 Double Beds.

Click here to make a reservation. **Please note that the rate published on the booking site is higher than $275/$295 per night. The rate difference will be subsidized by the Alliance for Childhood Cancer such that the reduced nightly rate of $275/$295 rate will be reflected during checkout at the hotel**

We strongly encourage advocates to book early as reservations are limited and are likely to sell out.

We also encourage advocates to plan to participate in Capitol Hill meetings all day on April 25th. Meetings could be scheduled up until 5pm ET that day - please plan your travel accordingly! Capitol Hill meeting schedules will be available for registrants a week before Action Days.

What type of clothing should I plan on wearing?

It is best to plan on wearing business casual attire throughout Action Days 2023, including for your Capitol Hill meetings on April 25.  This is merely a suggestion; feel free to use your own discretion.

In order to show that we are a unified group, we ask that you also wear your gold gear! Gold ties, scarves, or jewelry are all encouraged.

We ask that you please refrain from wearing gear from your home organization as we are trying to present a united front/message.

What am I doing on April 25th?

On Tuesday, April 25th, we will attend several meetings on Capitol Hill with your home state lawmakers. These meetings will be scheduled for you in advance, and you will be with other participants from your state.

Most congressional offices are welcoming visitors in-person again, but some offices continue to hold virtual meetings only. We will make every effort to secure in-person meetings for you on April 25th. However, if a congressional office will only meet virtually, we will schedule those meetings for you for Thursday, April 27th so your virtual meetings will not impact your day on Capitol Hill. Your full congressional meeting schedule - both in-person and virtual meetings - will be available in one place for you to access.

Are scholarships available for Action Days 2023?

A limited number of scholarships are available this year thanks to the generosity of sponsors. Scholarships will be applied toward a room stay at the JW Marriott Washington DC (1331 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004).

Click here to apply for an Action Days 2023 scholarship.

The application deadline is 5pm ET on Friday, March 17th.  Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early. Recipients will be notified of their award by Friday, March 24th

Will the Alliance offer a Children's Activity Room this year?

Yes! The Alliance will again offer a Children's Activity Room for children between 4 and 12 years old. The Children's Activity Room will be available during the Action Days training session on 4/24.

Families will be required to sign a waiver form upon drop-off, and all children will join their families for lunch.
